Congressman Lance Gooden expressed support on Mar. 27 for the Genesis Mission, an initiative designed to expand artificial intelligence across the United States’ scientific sector and enhance competition with China.

The topic is significant as it addresses concerns about maintaining American leadership in technology, energy, and innovation while reducing dependence on Chinese supply chains. The Genesis Mission aims to accelerate research partnerships and technological breakthroughs in various sectors.

“America must lead the world in innovation, not fall behind the Chinese Communist Party. The Genesis Mission accelerates AI-driven discovery, strengthens our energy future, and ensures the U.S. drives the next generation of technological breakthroughs,” Gooden said.

In a letter sent to Department of Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Gooden wrote: “President Trump’s November 2025 Executive Order launching the Genesis Mission leverages the full potential of American National Laboratories, technology, and industry. Private sector innovators play a critical role in ensuring the United States remains the global leader in emerging technologies. The DOE’s rapid response to President Trump’s call to action by entering into new research partnerships with organizations at the forefront of health, energy, manufacturing, and technological innovation is commendable. This thoughtful collaboration will harness the unique combination of government resources and industry expertise to accelerate innovations that will benefit Americans for generations to come.” The letter was cosigned by Representatives Michael McCaul (TX-10), Pat Harrigan (NC-10), Troy Nehls (TX-22), Cory Mills (FL-07), Robert Wittman (VA-01), Victoria Spartz (IN-05), Jack Bergman (MI-01), and John McGuire (VA-05).

The letter was featured exclusively by Washington Reporter according to Gooden’s office.

Gooden has represented Texas’ 5th district in Congress since replacing Jeb Hensarling in 2019 according to official information. He previously served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2017 until his election to Congress in 2019 according to the same source.

In recent elections for Texas’ 5th district seat in Congress: In 2024 Gooden defeated Ruth Torres with approximately sixty-four percent of votes; he won against Tartisha Hill with sixty-four percent in 2022; Carolyn Salter with sixty-two percent in 2020; and Dan Wood with over sixty-two percent of votes cast in 2018 according to election records.

Looking ahead, supporters say that continued investment through initiatives like Genesis Mission could shape America’s position as a leader in advanced technology.
