Planned lane closures will take place on Interstate 30 and nearby roads in Rockwall County from March 8 to March 14. The Texas Department of Transportation has scheduled several overnight and daytime closures for bridge and drainage work.
Overnight from Sunday, March 8 through Saturday, March 14, the east-to-west and west-to-east U-turn lanes at FM 3549 will be closed as needed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. These closures are related to bridge activities and will not remain in place for the entire time frame.
From Monday, March 9 through Saturday, March 14, similar U-turn closures at FM 3549 are planned during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., also depending on construction needs. Additional flagging operations will occur on FM 548 northbound and southbound for embankment work, removals, and bridge activities at Pond Branch during these hours.
On the I-30 eastbound frontage road between FM 551 and Erby Campbell Boulevard, there will be daytime flagging operations to unload drainage boxes and install LPCB. Similar work is scheduled near Rochell Road.
Between Wednesday, March 11 and Saturday, March 14, full overnight closures of FM 3549 northbound and southbound are expected from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The I-30 eastbound left lane at the FM 3549 Bridge will also close overnight during this period for bridge activities. In addition, the I-30 eastbound on-ramp at FM 3549 will be closed overnight.
From Thursday, March 12 through Saturday, March 14, overnight closures from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. are planned for the I-30 westbound left lane at the FM 3549 Bridge and the westbound on-ramp at FM 3549 due to ongoing bridge work.
Contractor crews have stated that “contractor crews will work with EMS, fire, and police to allow access through the closure should emergencies occur.”
Rockwall County schools have seen an increase in their number of at-risk students by about three percent over the past school year; they now total nearly eight thousand students according to data from the Texas Education Agency (https://tea.texas.gov/). This places Rockwall County among those with some of the highest numbers of at-risk student enrollments in Texas (https://tea.texas.gov/). Demographically, white students make up just over half of all students in Rockwall County schools while Hispanic students account for more than one quarter (https://tea.texas.gov/).
