Planned lane closures and detours on Interstate 30 and surrounding roads are scheduled to begin April 6, according to a recent announcement. The work will affect both daytime and overnight travel through Tuesday, April 7, with additional closures extending until Saturday, April 11.

The planned activities include an eastbound freeway closure overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for bridge deck pouring at FM 3549. Multiple U-turn closures at FM 3549 are also expected during the day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as overnight hours for ongoing bridge activities. These U-turn closures will be implemented as needed and may not remain in effect for the entire time period specified.

Other scheduled work includes flagging operations on FM 548 northbound and southbound during daytime hours for embankment, removals, and bridge activities at Pond Branch. Flagging operations will also occur along I-30 Eastbound Frontage Road from FM 551 to Erby Campbell between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., allowing crews to unload drainage boxes. Additional overnight full closures of FM 3549 northbound/southbound are planned for continued bridge construction.

Further construction efforts involve installing low-profile concrete barriers on I-30 Eastbound Frontage Road from SH 205 to John King during daytime hours, as well as placing new concrete pavement on I-30 eastbound left lane between FM 548 and FM 2642 overnight from nine in the evening until five in the morning.

Contractor crews have stated they will coordinate with emergency medical services, fire departments, and police agencies to allow access through closed areas if emergencies arise.

These roadwork projects come amid demographic changes in Rockwall County schools: The number of at-risk students rose by about three percent this year according to data from the Texas Education Agency. Rockwall County schools ranked forty-eighth highest statewide for total enrollment of at-risk students according to state education records. White students make up just over half of all local school enrollments while Hispanic students represent more than one quarter according to official statistics.
