Lance Gooden, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 5th district since 2019, used his social media platform this week to comment on crime, border security, and recent political events.
On March 24, 2026, Gooden wrote: “After Democrats defunded the police, violent crime in many blue cities across America surged by 40%. Now imagine what would happen if Democrats got their way and abolished ICE: More murders, more rapes, and more violence committed by illegal aliens.”
Later that evening on March 24, he posted about a local event: “Great to join so many patriots at the Henderson County Town Hall in Athens last night to discuss ending Democrats’ DHS shutdown, President Trump’s action to end 47 years of Iranian aggression, and how Republicans are delivering for working families ahead of the midterms.”
On March 25, Gooden commented on border apprehensions: “February was the 13th consecutive month with under 9,000 border apprehensions along the southern border. Under Joe Biden? 10,000 illegal crossings A DAY. President @realDonaldTrump still doesn’t get enough credit for securing the border once and for all.”
Gooden has represented Texas’s 5th District in Congress since succeeding Jeb Hensarling in 2019. He previously served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. In each general election since entering Congress—2018 against Dan Wood, 2020 against Carolyn Salter, 2022 against Tartisha Hill, and most recently in 2024 against Ruth Torres—Gooden secured victory with over sixty percent of the vote.
