Lance Gooden, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 5th district since 2019, posted a series of statements on his Twitter account on May 12, 2026, addressing issues ranging from foreign interference to police funding and community recognition.
In his first post of the day, Gooden criticized Democratic responses to allegations of foreign influence in U.S. politics. On May 12, 2026, he wrote: “Democrats spent years screaming about “foreign interference” over the Trump-Russia hoax, yet they’re awfully quiet about one of their own acting as an illegal agent of Communist China.”
Later that afternoon, Gooden commented on law enforcement policy within the Democratic Party. On May 12, 2026, he stated: “More than 1/3 of Democrats want to defund the police. They may have stopped saying it out loud, but their radical agenda never changed. I’ll always back the blue AND law and order!”
Gooden also marked a local milestone by honoring a church in his hometown. On May 12, 2026, he posted: “Honored to present a congressional proclamation marking 150 years of First Christian Church Terrell. An incredible milestone celebrating a congregation that has served as a cornerstone of faith, service, and community in my hometown for generations.”
Gooden has held his seat in Congress since replacing Jeb Hensarling in 2019 and previously served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. He has consistently secured re-election with significant margins against various opponents: Ruth Torres in 2024 (64.1% to 35.9%), Tartisha Hill in 2022 (64% to 33.9%), Carolyn Salter in 2020 (62% to 35.9%), and Dan Wood in 2018 (62.3% to 37.6%).
