Lance Gooden, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’ 5th district since 2019, posted a series of tweets on February 7 and 8, 2026, addressing issues ranging from the stock market’s performance to welfare usage and political accusations.
On February 7, Gooden commented on the historic milestone achieved by the Dow Jones Industrial Average, stating, “The Dow has crossed 50,000 points for the first time EVER. Chuck Schumer on the stock market in April: ‘You can’t undo the damage, the Trump Slump is upon us now.’ Care to comment, @chuckschumer?”
A day later, on February 8, he raised concerns regarding welfare statistics among immigrant households. He wrote, “Welfare use of illegal immigrant households is nearly DOUBLE that of U.S.-born households. Think about that while you’re doing your taxes.”
Later that same day, Gooden addressed an ongoing dispute with Gene Wu. He tweeted, “In 2023, Gene Wu smeared me as racist for questioning Chinese Communist Party front group connections. Now he calls all White people oppressors. Wu just exposed who the real racist is.”
Gooden has served in Congress since replacing Jeb Hensarling in 2019 and previously held office in the Texas House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019. In recent elections, he has maintained significant margins of victory over his opponents: defeating Ruth Torres in 2024 with over 64% of the vote; Tartisha Hill in 2022 with a similar margin; Carolyn Salter in 2020; and Dan Wood in 2018.
