Lance Gooden, a U.S. Congressman from Texas who has consistently won reelection since 2018, posted a series of tweets on September 2 and 3, 2025, criticizing Democrats and raising concerns about federal workforce policies and highway safety.
On September 2, Gooden wrote: “First, Democrats claimed there was no border crisis. Now, Democrats claim there is no crime crisis. Democrats love to LIE to the American people!”
The following day, he addressed highway safety in Texas: “Texas has more commercial truck drivers who can’t read English than ANY other state. This is unacceptable, and expected from a state like California, not Texas. Make our highways safe again!” (September 3).
Later that same day, Gooden commented on federal employee work habits under recent administrations: “Under Joe Biden, only 6% of federal employees worked in the office 5 days a week. Under President Trump, the percentage of federal employees working in-office has skyrocketed by 30 points in the second quarter alone. Trump’s return-to-office push is causing local economies to” (September 3).
Gooden has represented his district through several election cycles with notable margins. In the most recent general election in 2024, he defeated Ruth Torres with over 64% of the vote. He secured similar victories against Tartisha Hill in 2022 (64%), Carolyn Salter in 2020 (62%), and Dan Wood in 2018 (62.3%).
