Lance Gooden, a U.S. Congressman who has consistently secured re-election victories since 2018, posted a series of tweets on December 1 and 2, 2025, criticizing Democratic leaders and media coverage related to former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.
On December 1, Gooden questioned Democratic responses to national security issues and border policy. He wrote, “President Trump kills narcoterrorists → Democrats are outraged. Joe Biden released 99+ illegal aliens on the terrorist watchlist into the U.S. → Democrats stayed silent. Whose lives do Democrats actually care about?”
Later that day, Gooden addressed energy policy under the Biden administration compared to Republican-led states. In his tweet from December 1, he stated, “Remember the Biden administration’s ‘solution’ to record high gas prices? Buy a $50,000+ electric vehicle. Today, the average gas price is under $2.75 in 20 U.S. states. Thanks to pro-energy Republican policies!”
On December 2, Gooden criticized The New York Times for its reporting on former President Trump’s work schedule while contrasting it with coverage of President Biden’s time away from official duties. He tweeted, “President @realDonaldTrump works 12-hour days. Meanwhile, The New York Times released a fake news report claiming POTUS shows ‘signs of fatigue.’ Where was the NYT when Joe Biden spent 577 days on vacation?”
Gooden has maintained strong electoral support in his Texas district over several election cycles: he defeated Ruth Torres in 2024 with over 64% of the vote; Tartisha Hill in 2022 with a similar margin; Carolyn Salter in 2020; and Dan Wood in 2018—all by substantial leads.
