Lance Gooden, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 5th district since 2019, posted a series of statements on his social media account criticizing Senate Democrats and highlighting issues related to federal funding, voting laws, and business migration.

On March 15, 2026, Gooden wrote: “House Republicans passed DHS funding two separate times. Senate Democrats rejected both. So when you’re stuck in a 4-hour TSA line at the airport, remember exactly who caused it.”

The following day, he questioned Democratic opposition to voter identification requirements: “Simple question Democrats can’t seem to answer: If illegal aliens can’t vote, why oppose proof of citizenship to vote? Pass the Save America Act!” This post references ongoing debates over election security and legislative proposals like the Save America Act.

Later on March 16, Gooden commented on economic migration from California to Texas and cited several major corporations that have relocated or expanded operations in Texas: “Tesla, X, Chevron, Toyota, AECOM, McKesson, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Oracle, Public Storage, CBRE, and the 100,000 Californians who move to Texas every year would say otherwise, Gavin.”

Gooden has consistently secured reelection in his district. In 2024 he defeated Ruth Torres with over 64% of the vote; previous victories include wins against Tartisha Hill in 2022 (64%), Carolyn Salter in 2020 (62%), and Dan Wood in 2018 (62.3%). He succeeded Jeb Hensarling as representative for Texas’s 5th district after serving in the Texas House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019.
