Lance Gooden, a U.S. Congressman who has won several recent general elections in Texas, posted a series of tweets on September 2, 2025, addressing issues related to crime in Chicago, the Biden administration’s handling of unaccompanied minors at the border, and the state of the American economy under former President Trump.

In his first post from September 2, Gooden commented on violence in Chicago over Labor Day weekend. He wrote: “53 people have been shot in Chicago. 5 people have been killed. This Labor Day weekend alone. Yet Democrats keep insisting that Chicago doesn’t need President Trump’s help to curb crime.”

Later that night, Gooden addressed concerns about unaccompanied minors at the U.S.-Mexico border and actions by the Biden administration. He stated: “The Biden Admin claimed there was no crisis while over 300K unaccompanied minors were lost under its watch. Now, a judge is blocking flights that would return children to Guatemala. If Biden was telling the truth, why is this lawsuit even necessary?” The tweet included a link to further information.

On September 2 at 16:00 UTC, Gooden praised economic performance during Donald Trump’s presidency and criticized other political leaders’ responses. He wrote: “The American economy is on fire under President Trump. 500K+ new jobs (ALL private sector) 2.4M more native-born Americans employed Small business confidence hits 5-month high 10:1 regulation cuts driving real growth While others talk, Trump and Republicans are”

Lance Gooden has consistently secured electoral victories since first running for Congress in Texas’s fifth district; he defeated Ruth Torres in the general election held in 2024 with approximately 64% of the vote compared to Torres’s nearly 36%. In previous cycles, he also won against Tartisha Hill (2022), Carolyn Salter (2020), and Dan Wood (2018), each time by similarly wide margins.
