Lance Gooden, a U.S. Congressman who has consistently won his Texas district in general elections since 2018, posted a series of statements on social media between November 30 and December 1, 2025, addressing tax policy, immigration, and public safety.
On November 30, Gooden announced upcoming changes to tax refunds: “Record-breaking tax refunds are coming in 2026 thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts:
– $1,000 extra per filer
– $191 billion in tax relief
– $30 billion more in paychecks
Republicans are delivering real relief for families, relief that EVERY Democrat voted against.” (Nov. 30, 2025)
The following day, Gooden commented on recent media coverage regarding Afghan refugees: “CNN’s ‘Fact Check’: Afghans coming to the U.S. are not ‘unvetted refugees.’
Reality check: An Afghan national admitted under Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome has been charged with making a terroristic threat.” (Dec. 1, 2025)
Later that same day, he addressed an incident involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement vehicles in New York City: “An organized Radical Left group of rioters attacked ICE vehicles in New York City.
This is an insurrection.
Why haven’t Democrats condemned this violence and called for every rioter to be held accountable?” (Dec. 1, 2025)
Gooden’s comments come as he continues his tenure representing Texas’ fifth congressional district—a seat he has retained through several election cycles by significant margins. In the most recent contest in 2024, he defeated Ruth Torres with over sixty-four percent of the vote. Similar results were seen in previous elections against Tartisha Hill (2022), Carolyn Salter (2020), and Dan Wood (2018).
