Lance Gooden, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 5th district since 2019, used his social media platform in early February 2026 to comment on Democratic positions regarding immigration and voting laws.

On February 6, Gooden stated, “Democrats want illegal aliens to vote. Don’t believe me? 143 House Democrats voted AGAINST repealing D.C.’s non-citizen voting law.”

The following day, he posted about border security: “Border crossings hit a 55-year low thanks to President Trump, after Democrats said immigration reform was the only fix to Biden’s border crisis. This is what Democrats are saying about DHS today. Don’t fall for it.” Later that day, he added a statement on identification requirements: “Democrats demand that ICE agents show identification. Yet they refuse to support voter ID. If verifying federal agents is ‘common sense,’ why isn’t verifying voters?”

Gooden has served in Congress since replacing Jeb Hensarling in 2019 and previously represented Texas’s 5th District in the state legislature from 2017 to 2019. He has won several general elections by significant margins: defeating Ruth Torres in 2024 with over 64% of the vote; Tartisha Hill in 2022 with a similar margin; Carolyn Salter in 2020; and Dan Wood in 2018.
