Lance Gooden, U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 5th district since 2019, has used his social media platform to highlight legislative issues concerning voter ID laws, deportation of criminal illegal aliens, and credit card swipe fees.
On March 19, 2026, Gooden stated: “83% of Americans support voter ID. But Democrats are against the Save America Act. 87% of Americans support deporting criminal illegal aliens. But 186 House Democrats voted against the Deporting Fraudsters Act. Democrats are against the American people AND common sense!”
The following day, March 20, he drew an international comparison in a post: “Somalia recently implemented a ‘one person, one vote’ voter ID system for its elections. If a third-world country can do it, so can the United States. Pass the SAVE America Act!”
Later on March 20, Gooden shifted focus to financial issues affecting consumers: “Americans were charged a RECORD $198 billion in credit and debit card swipe fees last year. This SCAM robs Main Street while Wall Street profits. Congress must pass the CCCA to put money back in the pockets of everyday Americans, not the big banks!”
Gooden’s advocacy reflects ongoing national debates about election integrity measures and economic policies that impact everyday Americans.
Since joining Congress in 2019 after replacing Jeb Hensarling, Gooden has consistently won re-election with over sixty percent of the vote each cycle—defeating Ruth Torres in 2024 (64.1%), Tartisha Hill in 2022 (64%), Carolyn Salter in 2020 (62%), and Dan Wood in 2018 (62.3%). He previously served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2017 to 2019.
