Planned lane closures and traffic changes along Interstate 30 and nearby roads in Rockwall County will take place from March 29 through April 3, according to a March 27 announcement. The schedule includes both overnight and daytime closures for bridge activities, pavement work, and drainage installation.
The temporary roadwork is expected to impact travel in the area but is necessary for ongoing construction projects. Officials said that contractor crews will coordinate with emergency services to ensure access through closed areas if needed.
Overnight from Sunday, March 29 through Friday, April 3, U-turn lanes at FM 3549 (east-to-west and west-to-east) will be closed as needed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Full overnight closures are also planned for FM 3549 northbound and southbound lanes during bridge work. In addition, the left eastbound lane of I-30 between FM 548 and FM 2642 will close overnight while concrete pavement is placed.
Daytime closures are scheduled Monday, March 30 through Thursday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., including U-turns at FM 3549 as needed for bridge activities. Flagging operations are planned on FM 548 northbound/southbound for embankment removal and bridge work at Pond Branch; on I-30 eastbound frontage road from FM 551 to Erby Campbell for unloading drainage boxes; and on I-30 eastbound frontage road from State Highway (SH) 205 to John King Boulevard for barrier installation.
There will be no lane or road closures during the Easter holiday weekend—Friday, April 3 through Sunday, April 5—as stated by officials.
Recent data show that Rockwall County schools saw an increase of at-risk students by about three percent in the current school year—a total of nearly eight thousand—according to the Texas Education Agency. The county ranks forty-eighth highest in Texas for total enrollment of at-risk students according to state education records. Demographic information indicates white students make up just over half of local public school enrollment with more than twelve thousand students enrolled this year; Hispanic students comprise about one quarter of all students according to state data.
Officials remind drivers that crews will continue working closely with police, fire departments, and EMS personnel throughout these closure periods.
