A series of lane and ramp closures are scheduled along Interstate 30 and nearby roads from March 15 to March 21, according to a statement released on Mar. 14. The planned closures will affect various U-turns, frontage roads, and ramps in the area, with work taking place both during daytime hours and overnight.
The closures are part of ongoing bridge activities at FM 3549 and John King Boulevard. These changes may impact local traffic patterns as crews conduct embankment work, removals, drainage box unloading, and installation of low-profile concrete barriers. Contractor crews have stated they will coordinate with emergency services to ensure access through closed areas if emergencies occur.
Specific closures include overnight east-to-west and west-to-east U-turn restrictions at FM 3549 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., as well as similar daytime closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Flagging operations will be in effect on FM 548 northbound and southbound for embankment and bridge activities at Pond Branch during the day. Additional flagging is planned along I-30 Eastbound Frontage Road between FM 551 and Erby Campbell for drainage box unloading and barrier installation.
From March 18 through March 21, full overnight closures are expected on FM 3549 northbound and southbound lanes for bridge work. The I-30 eastbound left lane at the FM 3549 Bridge will also close overnight, along with the eastbound on-ramp at FM 3549. Similar westbound lane restrictions are set for later in the week.
These transportation updates come as Rockwall County schools report demographic shifts among students. The number of at-risk students in Rockwall County increased by 3.4% during the current school year, reaching a total of 7,777 students according to the Texas Education Agency. The county’s schools ranked as having the forty-eighth highest total enrollment of at-risk students statewide this year according to data from the Texas Education Agency. White students make up just over half of Rockwall County’s student population (12,123 students or about 51.7%), while Hispanic students represent approximately one quarter (6,172 students or about 26.3%) according to figures from the Texas Education Agency.
The roadwork is expected to continue throughout the week with adjustments made based on construction progress and weather conditions.
