The Rockwall County Elections Department announced on Apr. 17 that early voting for the Uniform Election will take place from Monday, April 20, through Tuesday, April 28. There will be no voting on Tuesday, April 21, in observance of San Jacinto Day, a state holiday. Early voting will resume at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22. Election Day is scheduled for Saturday, May 2.
Voters are required by Texas law to present an approved photo identification at the polls. Acceptable forms include a Texas Driver License, Texas Personal ID Card, Texas Handgun License, U.S. Military ID card with photograph, U.S. Passport book or card, or a Texas Election Identification Certificate.
This election period comes as local schools report changes in student demographics and needs. The number of at-risk students in Rockwall County increased by 3.4% during the 2023-24 school year to reach a total of 7,777 students according to the Texas Education Agency. During this same school year, Rockwall County schools ranked as having the forty-eighth highest total enrollment of at-risk students among all counties in Texas according to the Texas Education Agency.
Demographic data show that white students make up the largest ethnic group in Rockwall County schools with a total of 12,123 students or about half (51.7%) of the student body; Hispanic students are next largest with 6,172 students representing just over one quarter (26.3%) according to information from the Texas Education Agency.
