Heather Buegler, Chair of the Rockwall County Library Advisory Board, presented the results of a recent community survey about the library to the Commissioners Court on April 15.
The presentation aimed to inform county officials about how residents view and use their public library. The information is intended to help guide future decisions regarding library services and resources.
Buegler shared key data from the survey with commissioners, highlighting current trends in education within Rockwall County. The number of at-risk students in Rockwall County increased by 3.4% during the 2023-24 school year, reaching a total of 7,777 students, according to the Texas Education Agency. Additionally, Rockwall County schools ranked as having the 48th highest total at-risk student enrollment among all counties in Texas during that period according to state education data.
Demographic figures were also included in Buegler’s report. During the same school year, white students made up the largest ethnic group in local schools with 12,123 students or about 51.7% of enrollment. Hispanic students were next with 6,172 enrolled and accounted for approximately 26.3% of all students according to statistics from the Texas Education Agency.
The Commissioners Court will consider these findings as it reviews library programming and outreach efforts going forward.
