Rockwall County prepares FM 549 expansion and new road project dashboard

Mo Bur, Director of Project Development for the Texas Department of Transportation, recently spoke to the Rockwall County Infrastructure Consortium about plans to expand FM 549 to four lanes. The construction is scheduled to begin this summer.

The county also announced preparations to launch a Trip 21 Road Bond public dashboard on its website. This dashboard will provide updates on the progress of various road projects in the area.

During the 2023-24 school year, Rockwall County saw an increase in at-risk students by 3.4%, reaching a total of 7,777 students according to data from the Texas Education Agency (https://tea.texas.gov/). In terms of statewide rankings, Rockwall County schools had the 48th highest number of at-risk student enrollments among all counties in Texas (https://tea.texas.gov/).

Demographic information for the same school year shows that white students made up the largest group in Rockwall County schools, with 12,123 students accounting for 51.7% of enrollment. Hispanic students were the second-largest group with 6,172 students or 26.3% (https://tea.texas.gov/).
