Rockwall County announced on April 7 that it is updating its Thoroughfare Plan and is seeking community input through a survey open until April 20, 2026.

The update aims to guide future roadway connections, preserve important corridors, and ensure safe travel throughout the county. The plan builds on the County’s Strategic Plan 2050 and the previous thoroughfare plan from 2019. Officials say this process will use new data, feedback from residents, and collaboration with regional partners.

“Rockwall County is on the brink of an exciting update to its Thoroughfare Plan, and your input in our survey is vital for shaping the future!” said county officials. “Rockwall County is working with Freese and Nichols, Inc., to improve its Thoroughfare Plan to support future growth and meet changing transportation needs. This long-range vision is set to guide upcoming roadway connections, preserve essential corridors, and ensure safe and efficient travel throughout the County. Building on the County’s Strategic Plan 2050 and the 2019 Thoroughfare Plan, this update will incorporate the latest data, community perspectives, and regional partnerships.” They added: “Don’t miss your chance to contribute—our survey will close on April 20, 2026! Your thoughts will help shape the future of transportation in Rockwall County.”

Recent education data show that Rockwall County faces changes beyond infrastructure planning. The number of at-risk students rose by 3.4% during the 2023-24 school year for a total of 7,777 students according to Texas Education Agency. During that same period, Rockwall County schools ranked as having the forty-eighth highest total at-risk student enrollment in Texas according to Texas Education Agency. Demographic figures indicate white students made up most of Rockwall’s student body with over half (51.7%) or about 12,123 students enrolled; Hispanic students were second at roughly one-quarter (26.3%) or about 6,172 students according to Texas Education Agency.

County officials encourage residents to participate in shaping local transportation priorities by completing their online survey before it closes later this month.
