Ron Sullivan has been named as the new Kaufman County engineer.
According to a county spokesperson, Sullivan joined Kaufman County on Feb. 17. Sullivan previously worked in Forney as public works director. Additionally, Sullivan worked for Palestine, Bedford and Arlington.
Sullivan also worked with the Texas Department of Transportation for six years. His duties included supervising several highway projects, including construction work on Interstate Highway 45 and U.S. Highway 175.
"In Ron’s role with Kaufman County, he will provide administrative support to the Commissioner’s Court with their capital program, roads and transportation, development, and other county matters involving civil engineering," a county statement read.
Sullivan, a registered professional engineer, graduated from Texas A&M where he received a Bachelors Degree of Science with a major in civil engineering.
Before Sullivan was appointed as the Kaufman County engineer, the county didn't have a full-time person to fulfill the tasks. In 2018, Ken Cates, who was running for commissioner for the county, emphasized the importance of having a full-time engineer on staff to tackle the infrastructure issues in the county.
"Additionally, I believe it is past time for Kaufman County to at least consider employing a full-time county engineer that could professionally advise our precincts and Commissioners Court on road construction, flood control, infrastructure development, etc." Cates said.
