The 1,400 jobs Hunt County added between April and May were just a fraction of what was lost from April to May, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.
Hunt County lost more than 6,000 jobs since February because of closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Herald-Banner reported. The county started the year adding 300 jobs and with record employment.
The unemployment rate of 10.6% in May was a drop of 11% from April. Even with that big of a decline, it stayed much higher than the 3.3% from the same month a year ago. The last time unemployment in Hunt County approached this level was still below double digits in May 2010 and May 2011 when it hit 8.6%, the Herald-Banner reported.
The 36,720 people employed in May were 4,813 fewer than May 2019 even with the 1,395 jobs added since April.
Unemployment filings were made by 4,356 people in Hall County during May, which was 18 fewer than April. It was still almost 3,000 more than a year ago, according to the Herald-Banner.
