The Mesquite City Council has approved a zoning change paving the way for new commercial buildings and more jobs.
The zoning change for more than 22 acres of land east of Interstate 635 on Military Parkway moves the property from planned development to commercial. Huntington Industrial Partners is working to build a new industrial park that will include two state of the art facilities. The project also includes green space and a screening wall.
David Witcher, Mesquite's director of economic development, said the project proves the city is enticing to commercial developers.
"Our company is excited with this opportunity," Steve Meyer with Huntington Industrial Partners said in a release posted on the city's social media page, "The excellent location of our project coupled with the competitive labor force in Mesquite, makes this development a great addition to the area."
Meyer said the company will request approval from the federal government for the project to address the flood plain on the land.
