Mesquite Public Library recognized as ReadPlayTalk Partner

12

City of Mesquite, Tx issued the following announcement on Aug. 20

The Mesquite Public Library was recognized as a ReadPlayTalk Partner at the Aug. 9 Mesquite ISD School Board meeting. At the meeting, the library received a wooden plaque that was made by a student to thank them for their involvement in the program.

Director of Library Services Virginia Mundt said, “The Mesquite Public Library is honored to work with the Mesquite ISD ReadPlayTalk initiative. This family-oriented program can be transformative for young children and their parents. Early childhood literacy is also a public library priority. Both Mesquite public libraries support a culture of reading aloud and engaging with children, from birth through early childhood.”

ReadPlayTalk is a community-wide effort and community-supported initiative to champion early childhood literacy among Mesquite ISD students. Mesquite ISD doesn’t ask for financial donations from their partners. As a ReadPlayTalk Partner, businesses and organizations develop unique ways to get their customers, employees or members reading, playing and talking in their own homes with their own children. The Mesquite Public Library librarians have participated in the ReadPlayTalk pop-up events by providing story times and crafts for young children

Mundt added, “Libraries can be a treasure trove of wonderful literature for young readers, and the library itself provides the setting for a whole new world of learning.”
