Rockwall Police Chief Geron Retirement

90

Chief Max Geron has announced his retirement as Chief of the Rockwall Police Department, effective July 31. Chief Geron has served as the Chief during a time of challenges and changes in policing and brought a different perspective to the Rockwall Police Department, having served the citizens of Dallas as a Major in the DPD before joining the Department.

He has accepted a position as a Senior Director for a national-level policy institute, which focuses on improving health and public safety. This will give Chief Geron the opportunity to have a broad national impact on the modern-day development of the police profession.

Accomplishments during Chief Geron’s tenure include the addition of seven sworn positions in the current budget year, in the Patrol and Criminal Investigations division, as well as an officer-level position to oversee the department’s extensive training programs. Other departments have lost staffing or were able to add fewer officers than Rockwall was able to accomplish. Additionally, several police functions – including, most notably, Community Services and its legion of volunteers – can now enjoy much-needed additional space in the growing Rockwall Technology Park. As part of the department’s strategic plan, Chief Geron oversaw an increase in analytical capabilities by adding a full-time Crime Analyst. There have been significant technology and equipment upgrades for officers in the field. Chief Geron received input from internal focus groups on a host of issues important to all ranks. The department increased training and reduced risk with smart and prudent policy changes.

City Manager Mary Smith noted, “Chief Geron took significant steps to modernize this police department, improving on the good and making it even better. Rockwall continues to be a safe community with great Police Department support from our residents and business leaders”.

Chief Geron said, “the last two years have been incredibly challenging for the Police profession. The members of this department have worked hard to not only serve and protect our residents, but also make an investment in the youth of our community. For a father with children in this city, I am encouraged by the relationships our SROs build with our children. Our civilian professionals have done an outstanding job in support of our mission and I’m proud of their diligent work each day.”
