Mitchell and Shoffit earn A&M-Commerce's first two SLC weekly honors

The Texas A&M University-Commerce soccer team's Mya Mitchell and Mindy Shoffit have earned the first two Southland Conference Player of the Week awards in school history, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.

Mitchell (Dallas – Mesquite Horn), the goals and points leader during SLC matches is named the offensive player of the week, while Shoffit (Wichita Falls – Rider) is named the defensive player of the week.

Tallying a goal in both matches last week, Mitchell totaled five points in the wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Nicholls. She has scored in six straight matches and scored seven goals and 16 points in conference matches, which are bests in the SLC.

Shoffit logged all but six minutes in the two shutout wins. On Sunday at Nicholls, the Lions did not allow a shot on goal. The junior center back scored the match-winner on Friday against the Islanders, while recording an assist against the Colonels on Sunday.

Mitchell and Shoffit are the first player of the week honorees for A&M-Commerce across all sports since it joined the Southland Conference and began the transition to NCAA Division I.
