The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team opens Mountain West play this weekend with a pair of contests in California. The Cowgirls open league play with an 11 a.m., MT matchup Saturday against Colorado State before facing Fresno State at noon Sunday. Both matches will be hosted in Fresno, by Fresno State.

The Cowgirls (5-8) are coming off an impressive 7-0 win over Creighton last Saturday in Laramie. The Cowgirls won the doubles point by winning 2-of-3 doubles contests against the Bluejays before winning all six singles contests. Five of those six singles wins were in straight sets. In doubles, the teams of Ana Fernandez and Sophie Zehender (No. 1) and Violetta Borodina and Maria Oreshkina (No. 2) picked up wins and won their third- and fifth-straight matches, respectively as tandems. In singles play those four all picked up singles wins, as did Nikol Dobrilova and Noesjka Brink.

Wyoming has posted a conference record of 44-20, a 69-percent winning percentage, under Head Coach Dean Clower. The Cowgirls were 5-5 in league action last season and lost in the quarterfinals at the Mountain West Tournament to eventual tournament-champion, San Diego State.

CSU enters the weekend with an 11-2 mark overall this season and are a perfect 3-0 in neutral-site contests in 2023. Fresno State, meanwhile, is 6-6 on the season but is 4-1 at home this season. Eight of the Bulldogs' matches this season have come against top-70 opponents. The Rams are currently ranked No. 42 in the latest ITA Poll while Fresno is 67th.
