Over $8 million in grants have been awarded to 41 colleges, technical institutes, community colleges and independent school districts by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) for a program that's supporting education for high-demand jobs in Texas.
A total of $8,261,090 will be going to the 41 colleges and learning institutions, according to a press release from the TWC. The Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grant program will help the schools purchase necessary equipment for the education of these in-demand occupations.
Of those funds, Rockwall ISD will be receiving $130,399 toward equipment for 689 students in training to be dental assistants.
“This significant investment by TWC in our future workforce will help provide economic opportunities for Texans,” TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel said in the press release. “Providing training opportunities in high demand jobs will continue the development of new industries in our state.”
A six-member JET Advisory Board helps the TWC decide where the grants go to. The board meets each quarter to discuss applications and grant pacements.
“Congratulations to all of the JET Grant recipients,” Commissioner Aaron Demerson said in the press release. “Employers and educators, working together, will positively impact the Texas workforce, by giving Texas students the tools they need to advance their skills and meet the high demands of the 21st century.”
