Fashion design students from the Dr. Gene Burton College & Career Academy recently earned Top 10 placements in their categories at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) National Leadership Conference in San Diego, California.
Junio Gracie Zellerhoff earned first place in the Fashion Design, Level 2 category.
Junior Kaitlyn Fowler earned second place in Fashion Construction, Level 2.
Senior Madison Glenn earned third place in Fashion Design, Level 3.
Ella Novak, who graduated in May 2022, earned fifth place in Fashion Design, Level 3.
Junior Mallory Kehm earned 17th place in Fashion Construction, Level 2.
The five students received gold and silver medals for their outstanding accomplishments.
The success of the Fashion Design program does not stop there. Student Sadie Lankford has been named the sole recipient of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FDIM) Fashion Club Junior Scholarship Competition. The scholarship is worth $40,000 and will cover her first year of tuition at FDIM in Los Angeles.
Sadie had to submit an original collection that included six designs and two essays. Sadie is the first student in the state of Texas to receive this scholarship.
