Public Safety Alert

16

St. John's University issued the following announcement on Nov. 12

On Thursday, November 11, 2021, at 5 p.m., the New York City Police Departmentcontacted the Department of Public Safety seeking assistance in the theft of a motor vehicle owned by a student and its subsequent recovery on November 11 in Manhattan.

Public Safety assisted, and the investigation revealed that the student had parked his vehicle on Union Turnpike (outside of Gate 5) on Wednesday, November 10, at 7:07 p.m., and believes he accidentally dropped the key upon exiting the vehicle.

On Wednesday, November 10, at 9:09 p.m., two unidentified males were captured on closed-circuit video exiting a dark, four-door sedan outside of Gate 5. The two males approached the student’s vehicle, and the headlights could be seen flashing—a clear indication that one of the unidentified males used a key to unlock the student’s vehicle. The two males entered the vehicle and drove eastbound on Union Turnpike.

The New York City Police Department is actively investigating the theft of the motor vehicle under case #2021-107-5862. If you have any information concerning this incident, please contact them at 718-969-5100 or Public Safety at 718-990-5252.
